Our favorite File Transfer Protocol program is WS_FTP by Ipswitch. I've seen it used for years with no problems - it's easy to install and use. It's shareware - so if you like it and intend to keep using it you should register it and pay for it. The Microsoft Jet Engine Version 3.5 Service Pack 3 is here in case you you need it. Simply download this file and run it once to make sure that your data access files are up to date. Some folks are having trouble installing the Jet Version 4, Service Pack 5 from Microsoft. If you are getting an 'error registering OCX' message when installing SP5, try installing Microsoft Jet Engine Version 4.0 Service Pack 3 first. This has fixed the problem for a couple of our customers. Make sure you then install the SP5 so all the machines are on the same version. We've included it here for your convenience, it's hard to find on the MS site. The Microsoft Jet Engine Version 4 Service Pack 5 is available as well, but you have to get the right version for your operating system. In their quest to make Windows even more fun to work with, this service pack comes in 3 flavors. Here's the link to Microsoft's site - read very carefully and pick the one that makes sense for you. Grab JetComp.exe when you get a chance. This utility is invaluable. It will remove dead space in your databases and reindex them for greater speed. Save it to your Windows directory so that it can be easily run from the Start button. Windows Installer 2.0 may be needed to use the Install Files for Process Server's Toolbox or Courier Service Toolbox. If you are in the habit of running a Windows Update, you should already have this version downloaded to your computer. Inforad makes a great little pager program named Watch-IT that we can use to send messages to a text pager from inside PST or CST. The web address is www.inforad.com/demos.html to go straight to the Watch-IT program. Download Slice to split a large file into small pieces on multiple floppies. Slice is a DOS program and only understands short file names, but it works great and is very tiny. If you need to compress data and move it on to floppy disks (like moving data from one computer to another), WinZip (above) can do both in one step and has a much more modern interface.
